Excursions

Due to our central location in the centre of Wipptal, just 25 km from Innsbruck and a few minutes to the Italian border, you will find several interesting excursions in the surroundings.

Top of Tyrol at the Stubaier Glacier
Reach the dizzy heights of 3.165 m in just 4 minutes with the new Schaufeljoch cable car.

Innsbruck
The Alpine metropolis is the provincial capital of Tyrol, art and cultural centre, university and congress city, Olympic city and holiday region. Innsbruck is a historically growing cultural centre with a history dating back 800 years. Visit the impressive works of art in imperial residences, churches and museums.

Hall in Tirol with coin tower
A much-loved excursion and shopping town with an historic old town dating back to the 12th and 13th centuries. Especially worth seeing are the coin tower ( make your own coins with hammer and spindle ), the Hasegg Castle, the town hall, the heritage museum, as well as the mining museum.

Achensee lake
Tyrols’ largest lake – crystal clear and emerald green, a fjord between the Karwendel and Rofan mountain ranges, bordering the lake to the west, this is Europes largest nature reserve. A hike around the lake is definitely worth it – the circumference can also be covered by a steamer. Or why not take a journey with the romantic cog-wheeled railway, the oldest of its kind, connecting Jenbach to Achensee for over a hundred years.

Glass blowing centre in Rattenberg
Rattenberg has been a market place since 1254 and a town since 1393. It is the smallest town in Austria with just 650 inhabitants. The glass blowing centre is definitely worth a visit.

Agricultural museum in Kramsach
The museum of Tyrolean agriculture is situated on the eastern shore of the Reintalersee lake. The site covers an area of approximately 8 hectares. As well as the architectural details, a certain degree of attention is focused on the agricultural way of life with cattle handling and daily routine on the farm.

Swarovski Crystal Worlds
In Wattens – where rooms are filled with amusement and breath-taking grandeur. Let the crystal planets enchant you as well as the crystal dome, through crystal meditation, crystal theatre and the ice alleys. A unique work of art created by Austrian artist Andre Heller.

The Dolomites
A wonderful holiday region: South Tyrol – at Trentino, at the foot of the Brenta. Via Bolzano through the wildly romantic Eggental valley, past the rose gardens to Canazei. Up to the Sella pass into the Grösnertal valley with the picturesque regions of Wolkenstein, Santa Cristina and St. Ulrich. Via Chiusa ( Klausen ) to Vipiteno ( Sterzing ) for a leisurely shopping trip.

South Tyrolean wine routes with Merano and Dorf Tirol
The landscape and the culture of South Tyrol are illustrated by the wine-growing regions. Culture and its landscape have been landmarked for generations. The holiday season for wine fanatics stretches from the beginning of April through to the beginning of November. Visit the inns and sample one of the several young wines on offer. An annual meeting place for wine fanatics and the elite !

Mittenwald Geigenbaum museum
This museum illustrates the history of the violin and its development in Mittenwald. The focus of the high-value intstrument collection lies at the violin manufacturer in Mittenwald, designed in baroque style by Matthias and Sebastian Klotz. Violin of other origins – for example the world-famous Tyrolean violin maker Jacob Stainer – are as much on display as the related string instruments

Mainau island
A superb picture of the ever-changing sea of flora is offered by this wonderful island from spring through to the autumn. Beginning with the orchid display in the palm house to the summer rose gardens with fascinating show of the several hundred sorts to the colourful dahlia show in autumn. Mainau also offers a varied cultural programme: displays with castle concerts and magnificent classic open air concerts in the castle courtyard. Further natural beauties can be view in the butterfly house.

Ettal monastery
Imposing and spacious, this monastery of the Benedictine monks pilgrimage with its superb Kuppel basilica dominates the entire complex. King Ludwig of Bavaria founded this monastery in the year 1333. The delightful twelve-sided centre of the gothic church was designed in Baroque style in the year 1710 and made to a rococo masterpiece by one of the best artists of the era.

Munich
Museums, shopping, beer gardens and much more. Germanys’ secret capital city of Munich doesn’t just have the Oktoberfest beer festival (in September!) on offer.

Bavarian Royal Castles

Neuschwanstein:
1869 to 1886 under King Ludwig II of Bavaria on the site of the front and rear Hohenschwangau ruins in the style of a middle-aged castle.

Hohenschwangau:
1832 to 1836, the crown Prince Maximilian of Bavarian ordered the building of the crumbling castle in New Gothic style.

Linderhof:
1870 to 1879, built by King Ludwig II of Bavaria. The preferred castle of King Ludwig, a true rococo jewel, reminding one of the petit Trianon in Versailles and is also the only one of the three castles, which was truly built to the end.

Oberammergau: The world-famous passion play site is located in neighbouring Bavaria. When Oberammergau was hit by a plague in the year 1633, the play was held every 10 years, depicting the fall and death of Jesus Christ. Oberammergau is also the site of the world-famous Lüftlmalerei.
