Windacher Daunkogel (3351m)

Tour suggestions from the archives of www.lawine.at

The ski tour destination improve drastically thanks to the better snow quality in the high Alpine regions. A long, nevertheless very impressive and safe tour destination during the winter season is provided by the Windacher Daunkogel in the tour region of the Amberger Hütte.

From the car park in Gries im Sulztal towards a forest route, followed by a sleigh run towards the Amberger Hütte (if necessary, overnight stay is possible, dividing the tour into two more leisurely days. Info on the hut at www.alpenverein.at). From the hut follows a flat ground, the so-called “Sulze” coming in from the valley. On the first slightly steep slope on the right of the stream ( route on the photo begins from here ), then back over a flat ground straight ahead towards the Sulzenferner. Slowly continue further up towards the right hand side if the valley over a perfect glacial hang to the 3100 m located Wütenkarsattel.

From here, many people continue not to the main peak, but to the west-located front peak towards the east, the last route to be covered on foot. Descent just as the ascent. In case of early descent (source: 11.04.0) continuing good conditions. Approaching the weekend, its best to be off as early as possible due to the excellent skiing conditions.
